A Foolish Joke

Being an only child, I am very mischievous. I love to tease people and play tricks on others. Their cries and embarrassment are my entertainment. My parents tried sending me to a juvenile school but the school didn’t wanted me there. I was uncontrollable. They gave up and just put me in the same school. Despite my behavior, the principle couldn’t do anything but to agree.

Just like any usual day, I would set up my traps for the teachers for the upcoming period. This time, I slipped a mouse inside the teacher’s desk. The teacher wouldn’t notice it until she sits. When the door opened, it wasn’t my usual teacher. Instead, it was a new face. I never see her before, so I guess she must be new here. She came in and sat on the desk. I thought she didn’t notice the mouse so I waited a little longer. However until the end of the period, she just left the class. My classmates laughed at me, as that was the first time my trick didn’t work.

That night, I was furious and embarrassed. I will get her to payback for the embarrassment I’ve gone through. The whole night, I kept on thinking of a perfect plan to make her scream at the top of her lungs. When I finally figured it out, I put the plan into my bag and climbed onto my bed. “Tomorrow will be fun.” I muttered to myself. The whole time, I slept with a wide smile on my face.

That teacher came in again, but this time, she had a smile on her face, unlike yesterday. She actually looked quite pretty. Her brunette hair flowed around her oval face and formed a big curl at the end. Her dress was black and knee-length. To be truthful, she looks more like a model instead of a teacher. She introduced herself as Miss Lum. When she sat on the teacher’s chair, this time, she instantly fell on the ground and everybody burst out laughing. I laughed the hardest and she had her eyes on me. She glared at me and instantly stood up and walked out the door. I stopped laughing when she looked at my direction. Her expression somehow gave me the chill down my spine.

The vision of her face expression was still vivid in my mind as I was walking back home. Walking passed the trees near a cemetery, the wind suddenly blow furiously. The branches of the trees were swaying vigorously and the leaves were blown all around. The bright sky starts to darken. I thought it was going to rain when I heard a loud crash of thunder. BOOM! I picked up my pace, as I hated getting wet in the rain. My jog soon became a run when a second thunder came crashing.

Then, in a distance, I saw a women’s silhouette. I never thought anyone would be out here at this time of the day, especially when it’s about to rain. Everyone should be home by now, sheltering from the rain. Soon, the figure came into a clear view. It looked like Miss Lum but I wasn’t sure until I got closer. She looked different than before. Her hair blowing vigorously under the wind and her glaring eyes were still locked on her face. Her sweet smile from this morning turned into a snarl. Her overall was torn and covered with red stains. I could say that she looked like a psychotic serial killer. Suddenly she flashed near me and in a second, we are facing each other. As I was still frightened of what had just happened, I felt a sharp pain on my stomach. I looked down and saw her nails dug into my flesh. I screamed.

“Edmund, wake up!” My history teacher was staring down at me. I looked at him blankly and realized that I am still at school. I was covered in cold sweats and I felt so sick. The girl besides me looked at me, knowing that something is wrong about me. Yes, I was quite and I didn’t talked back to the teacher. The teacher just walked away from my desk, not knowing what else to do, as he was hoping for my back talk. After class, I went straight back home without any stops. Once I reached my bedroom, I quickly lay onto my bed lazily. I felt so weak and tired. I could feel my temperature raising as the time goes. My mother came to check on me, as she felt something is not right. She took my temperature and true enough; I was running a high fever. She gave me some medicine and tucked me in for the first time in ages. Although I’ve been a rotten egg, she really looked very worried. I forced my hand to move and placed it onto hers. She stared at me for a minute then kissed me on my forehead. “I’m sorry for troubling you all this time.” I whispered softly. Without waiting for my mother to leave the room, my eyes seem to be heavy so I shut it.

Days gone by, I was still feeling ill. My parents decided to bring me to the doctor for extra checkups. Feeling weak, I have no choice but to agree. On the way to the clinic, our car passed the cemetery. I looked out the window and I saw her, Miss Lum. She was crying as she was looking down onto something she was holding on. I focused my eyes on her until she disappeared from my view. At the clinic, the doctor told my parents that it was just a normal fever. Though my parents were relived, I doubt that. Ever since that time when I was dreaming about Miss Lum, this fever came. For the following days, I was still not well enough to go school but I was recovering slowly.

One night, I dreamt the same dream. However, when I woke up this time, my fever went down. I knew it was weird but that was what really happened to me. I got up and get dressed for a walk. At first, my mother was concerned but I assured her that I’m well enough. So, she let me. Walking the usual way by the cemetery, I saw her again. Same place, she just stood there. I gathered my courage and walked towards her. She turned her head towards me as soon as I was near. Her eyes were so red that she looked as if she’s been crying all night. I stood beside her and apologized. Instantly, she smiled the same smile from the second time we met. Out of curiosity, I asked her why was she crying. She quickly wiped her tears and looked at me for a while, trying of a reply.

“I’m sorry...” she begun. She told me that she once had a son around my age and he looked exactly like me. She loved him so much but he suddenly left her. It all happened so fast. The only memory she had was the pocket watch she gave to him when he was 8. The watch was the thing she has been holding and it looked broken and falling apart. She told me that she had this watch in her pocket when she fell from the chair the other day. Realizing that it was my fault that the watch is in that condition, I apologized again. She smiled at me and told me that she has forgiven me. As I felt time has passed quite some time, I realized I should be home by now. I bid her goodbye and ran back home without looking back. “I will cheer her up.” I thought. My mother came by my room to check on my temperature and she was really shocked as I recovered completely.

That evening, I was wrapping an item I bought on the way back for Miss Lum in a box with a pink ribbon. The doorbell suddenly rang. We weren’t expecting anyone and my parents went out for groceries shopping. Putting those items aside, I got up and answered the door. As I opened the door, a soft wind rustled by and there was no one there. Thinking it is a prank, I was readily to shut the door but my eyes caught on something on the ground. Curiously, I picked it up and I instantly knew that was Miss Lum’s pocket watch. I looked around but there was no sight of her. Besides the watch, there was a note saying “Thank You”. I didn’t know why would she put it there. I didn’t even tell her where I live.

Next morning, as I was getting ready for school, the clouds looked like it is going to rain. I wrapped the gift in a plastic bag and hurried walked to school. As the bell rang, I could hardly wait for Miss Lum to enter the class but instead a different person showed up. “Why isn’t it Miss Lum?” I blurted out as soon as I saw the teacher came in. The lady and the whole class looked at me and she told me that she was no longer available. Unsatisfied, I rushed out of the classroom and head for the principle’s office. Without knocking on the door, I just walked in and asked him straightly. He was surprised at first but he calm down and told me that she has passed away a few days ago. “I was sick during this few days, well of course I wouldn’t get the news.” I thought to myself. The principle continued, apparently the fall the other day gave her an impact and she fall sick and passed away. I was tongue-tied. “How can that be? She was with me just about yesterday!” I shouted at the principle and ran back home without packing my stuff in the classroom.

Sitting by the window of my bedroom, I kept thinking about the news again and again. Blaming myself for her death, however, she kept it a secret from me. I finally realized how childish I was when I was preparing that trick. That foolish act of mine taught me to think carefully before doing anything. From that day on, I stop playing tricks on people and making fun of others. I have turned in a new leaf.

Mansion on hill

Can you imagine?
At the top of the hill that lays a big mansion.
It’s so big that no matter how far you are,
You can still see its silhouette.
The place no longer occupy,
It is left empty.
However,
Every full moon,
The piano will be playing.
The melody of fur elise is heard.
People try to find out the pianist,
But the house was locked the whole time.
There were no sign of people,
No sign of living things.
Who do you think the one who play the song?
That shall remain a mystery.

The Comatose Yamamoto

*This is happen during the time where Yamamoto was in coma. Some parts are actually spoilers from the manga. I do not owned KHR, this is just a fanfic*

His vision was blurred and there were blood everywhere. His lower part hurts and he felt as if he is going to die. Knowing about what’s going to happen, he gathered the last of his strength to warn his friends by writing on his pool of blood.

Finally when he was satisfied, he instantly loses his conscious and everything went blank.

*          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *

Beep, beep… the heart monitor is sounding according to the heartbeat of the patient beside it.

“What happened to me? I can’t remember. Wait, I think I was Kaoru that time. We were at the boys’ locker room and we were chatting while changing our clothes. And… what happened? Uh.. I can’t think right now. Not especially when I can’t move or open my eyes.”

“What’s more, I could hear a commotion going on. One of it sounds just like Tsuna, calling out for me.”

“You cannot come in” An unfamiliar voice seems to be talking to him. “He’s in a very dangerous condition”.

“Dangerous condition? Was that person referring to me? Did something that bad happened to me? Why is everyone around me feeling very tense right now?”

  *beep* *beep*

“Urgh? Why can’t I get up? People are calling me! Kaoru must be too! I mean he was with me… and… ouch...my stomach hurts… but why?”

*          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *

When Gokudera first heard about the news, he was extremely shocked and his heart was shattered as if a knife pierces into it. Everything seems to be normal until now. Who would do that to that baseball idiot? He hardly can do anything to make people want to kill him just like that.

Without wasting any time, he immediately informed the tenth about his rain guardian before he headed to the hospital. He knew he sounded shaken but he tried his best to speak as calmly as possible.

As soon as Tsuna arrived at the hospital, he instantly rushed into the hospital’s operation room where Yamamoto was held.

“YAMAMOTO!!” The news of knowing one of his friend was hurt truly an unpleasant experience. From afar, he could see the swordsman lying on the bed with his body full of blood and an oxygen mask covering his mouth. The doctors there instantly shooed him out and warned him about how serious condition is Yamamoto is.

He lost in spirit and instantly drops against the wall as soon as he was out of the room. “This can’t be happening!” Tsuna keep whisper those words softly. Everybody around could only stand there, quite as a silent child and hope for their happy-go-lucky friend to recover in the cold white corridor.

Gokudera knew that even he couldn’t help cheering his leader as the right hand man, especially when he is feeling the same thing.

“I won’t forgive whoever who did this!!” Letting out his anger and frustration while his hands gripped into a fist. Still facing Yamamoto, he could see that the baseball idiot is suffering as he keep gasping for air and his heartbeat is getting slower. He wouldn’t want that fellow to just die like that. Especially not when he doesn’t know why he had to get hurt like this.

As it was getting late, everybody seems to be tired out but they didn’t want to leave. He can’t believe that they were about to celebrate the ceremony of Tsuna being the Vongola boss and this misfortune happened.

He was saddened just like everybody else but he didn’t show much of his expression. But deep inside of him, he kept telling Yamamoto to open his eyes.

*          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *

“It hurts. It hurts really badly. I guess that is why I can’t move much.”

“Doctor, he lost too much blood! It will take a miracle for him to recover. What should we do now?” Said one of the nurses.

“We’ll just have to try our best.” He assured his assistant. “What I’m wondering is that what could have happened to this poor boy. His wound doesn’t seem ordinary and it’s terrible. It was as if some animal with a giant claw just slash through him.” The wise man continues.

“A claw through me? Through…me…?” That’s when he recalled the memory of Kaoru attacked him when he was just joking about the paper with the crossed-out Vongola’s crest. However, the raven-haired soon found out that the Simon’s family’s intention was real, the hard way. The feeling of getting hurt and was hospitalized like right now isn’t as bad as getting hurt by his friend’s betrayal. He knew the bigger man must have a reason for doing this. Even if he really wants to find out, he could wake from this coma.

As the time keeps passing by, the more he feels his body tearing apart and he knew he was getting weaker by the seconds. He didn’t know how much time has passed since he was weakened but it felt really long.

“I don’t want to die just yet. There are still many misunderstandings to solve.” He wouldn’t want his family to go against the Simon family just because of what happened to him. “PLEASE!” He cried out loud this time.

It was then he was transferred into a dark space. From afar, he could see a light, just like the end of a tunnel. However, he knew that if he passes through it, he would never see the others again. Crouching on the spot, he held up his hand to take a look at it. There are still traces of his blood, even though this isn’t the reality world. At the sight of the crimson red, he wrap his hands across his knees and buried his face close his knees.

“Do you want to live?” A voice suddenly echoes in the wide space. I lift my head to look around, but there were no sight of the owner. Naturally, I stood up.

“Yes, I do. My friends are going to get hurt because of me and I want to stop them.” The Japanese boy answered firmly.

“As you wished, I shall grant it to you.” Yamamoto knew it sounds fishy but if that were the only way he could recover, he would take the risk.

*          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *

The sound of the heartbeat from the heart monitor indicates the patient is recovering. Slowly from the twitching of his fingers, he began opening his eyes. Through the glass of his room, he saw a familiar figure, someone who the Vongolas fought before this. The man with a purple tattoo right under his left eye turned around with his light purple eyes stared into Yamamoto’s eyes, he just smile and walk away.

“Byakuran? What is he doing here?” Yamamoto thought to himself as he helps himself up. That’s when he realized that silver-haired has just saved his life. His deep wounds were healed (though not fully healed) and he was awake from his coma. The doctors came rushing in as soon as they heard the changes from the beeping monitor. They were all speechless of such miracle happened to this seriously wounded guy.

Looking at the side of the table, a note was slipped under the flower vase while a necklace, which seem to be his upgraded vongola gear beside it. He picked the note and the necklace. “Take this and save your friends. They should be fighting right now.” That’s what the note says. He turned the page around and there’s a map on the back. He assumed that his friends must be there.

Without hesitance, he instantly ran out of the room, ignoring the dumbfounded doctors.

Secret Betrayal: Chapter 5

Class hasn’t been the same for Kye after Rick and Cally were absent for days. The sudden disappearances of the both of them are making his heart feeling uneasy. He recalled the conversation (well, argument) he had with the girl he loved about his best friend. It was the first time he sees her sad but it doesn’t change the fact that he believed her. Well, of course not.

Rick has always been there for him. When he was just five, many kids love to bully him. Being the only child, no one ever stood up for him. It just so happened that day at elementary school a new boy just transferred and that boy would be Rick. When the kids bullied him as usual, Rick protected him. From there onwards, they becomes friends and never a day they were apart. Well, until Rick’s parent got transferred overseas and he had no choice but to follow them. Even though that, they always exchanged emails and called each other. They were such inseparable pair.

However, since that heartbreaking day, he didn’t know what to believe anymore. The whole day he kept trying to absorb what Cally told him the other day. As he was thinking, he didn’t realized how much time has passed until the bell rang. Everyone in the class started leaving while he was still there packing his stuff into his bag. Michelle came by and stood in front of him.

“Have you heard anything from Cally yet? She wouldn’t reply my message or receive my calls. I’m very worry for her.” She sounded really sad and both of her hands were shaken of uneasiness.

With a hand on hers, he assured her that he will informed her about Cally as soon as he heard something. She looked at him gratefully and started leaving the classroom. He walked his way to the house of his missing friend but she was not home. Since he can’t think of anything else, he decided to visit Rick, whom contacted him the day before, instead.

On the way there he took out his phone and typed another message to Cally. She hasn’t been replying him since the first one he sent to her. Somehow he hoped that she’s been reading the past messages.

At least tell me where are you? I know you are not home. Actually no one is home. Let me repent my sin towards you. Please. Pretty please with a cherry on top? I’ll buy you cake! Maybe two? Please?
Standing in front of the huge gate of Rick’s residences, he rang the bell asking for his friend. The butler confirmed that he is in however he is busy talking to someone else. He told the butler he would just wait inside, and of course the old guy let him in. Ever since they were just kids, Kye has always come over. For that, the old butler had known the two boys like his own sons. As he entered the room, the maidservant greets him.

“Young master is at the study room.” She told the young boy while bowing to him.

He thanked her and make his way there. Just a few steps before he reach to the room, he could hear the conversation inside. Rick seems to be talking with some older guy but he knew it’s not his father. He thought he would just excuse himself and just asked a few question but their conversation stirred his interest.

“What do you mean you missed? She should be dying in that car accident!”

“B-but there was a little girl there. The deal is to dispose of the girl only, not involving anyone else.”

“Yeah sure. You ended hurting yourself and not killing her. I don’t want her to spread the news about me. Anyway… your job is done. I’ll find another way to get rid of Cally by tomorrow.”

Hearing the name of his girlfriend, he found out that she was hospitalized. Without seeing Rick, he rushed out of that place and stopped a taxi to the nearest hospital. On the way to the destination place, his heart was pumping really fast and his body starts to feel the chill of the air conditioner.

“Why is Rick doing this? What had she done to him before? Is she okay? Am I really that blind to see what is hidden behind my back? Was she telling the truth?” His mind is hurting with these entire questions waiting for answers.

One by one, he searched every possible hospital she might be in. He was about to throw in the towel when he reached the fifth hospital that day. Fortunately she was registered there. He paid the taxi driver and rushed to the floor she was hospitalized in. Every step he takes, his heart throbs harder and harder. Although he though seeing her would be easy, but in reality it isn’t. Not after what he did to her and not believing every single word she said. Finally he reached in front of a room numbered 546,where her name was written near the door. Heart racing, sweat runs down his temples, sweaty palms, he tried to gather his courage to face her. Slowly he placed his hand on the doorknob and turned it. As the door was ajar, he could see her back, as she was facing the window. He walked in step by step, making sure not to disturb her. When he was near enough to talk, he cleared his throat while putting both hands at the back.

“Erm… C-cally?” He knew his voice was croaked due to the nervousness of a sudden visit.
