Secret Betrayal : Chapter 2

“What happened to my Cally?” Father was very shocked to hear the bad news that happened to his beloved daughter and it can seen clearly by the way he rushed and ushered his way. That moment, he could care less about the surrounding people, even if mother was there or the fact that he's in the hospital right now.

“So, you do care about her…” Andrew thought to himself. “The doctors are trying to save her at his very moment. We were told to wait outside.” He informed the older man of the doctor’s instruction.

Although he knew his mother never like Cally, she still seems quite worried. Knowing this, he sat beside his mother all the time. While waiting for the light to turned off, the little girl from before came by with her mother.

“I’m very sorry for my daughter’s clumsiness. I do hope for forgiveness even though I couldn’t do much to help right now.” The mother apologized to the three of us.

The little girl sat in front of Andrew and kept on crying. “ I’m so sorry, big brother. It’s my fault. I’m sorry…” She apologized repeatedly with her flushed red cheek and tears flowing down. Seeing her little sad face, Andrew could only pat her head while saying it’s not her fault.

“Mother, is Jessica all right?” Not long later, a teenage boy came by and joins them. The boy is the older brother of the little girl. The mother nodded and he was glad of the news. However he heard that a girl around his age helped his younger sibling. He wanted to thank the family but everyone seems tense and very worried about the coming outcome, so decided to keep it to himself.

As the lights of the hospital start to turn on, he knew it’s already getting late and they should head back. His parents need to get up early in the morning for work and he had school. Seeing his father was very worried about his only daughter, he offered to stay behind instead to look after her after the operation is done. At first the old man hesitate but later he threw in the towel as he’s feeling really tired and he had an important meeting the next day. As the two begin walking their way back, Andrew looked at the back of those two, thinking how hard they had to work for the sake of him and his younger sibling.

The mother also thinks that it’s getting late and they should get going. However, the feeling of knowing the outcome is stronger. Just when she finally decided to move along, the doctor came out of the room. Everybody’s attention turned to the older man, waiting for him to say something.

“It seems that she lost a lot of blood and she needed some to continue the surgery. However, she have the Bombay blood type and there’s no stock in the blood bank.” He told the group.

Andrew was awestruck at that news, as he doesn’t have that blood. It is said that Bombay blood type is a rare blood type, only four per million in human populations has it, and it can’t receive any other type than itself.

The boy heard it and he raised his hand. Everybody turned to him.

“If it really increase her chances of surviving I will donate mine.” He said firmly. “I have the Bombay blood type.” The doctor was silent awhile and look at the mother.

“I have the O blood type and it’s true he had that blood type.” The mother confirmed the doctor. Without wasting any time, the doctor asked the boy to enter a room for check up. When the result is finally out, it is confirm that he has that blood type. The doctor asked the mother for permission and she immediately approves.

“Then, please come this way.” The man led the way to the surgery room. Before the young boy goes in, Andrew grabbed him by the wrist.

“Are you sure you are going to donate your blood to someone you don’t know? I know it sound crazy, coming from her older brother.” The boy held onto Andrew’s hand and assured him that it’s all right.

“My sister owes this girl her life. This is a return favor for her, so it’s okay.” He smiled.

“Please be save, Kevin.” The mother hugged the boy before he entered the room.

Why would a stranger help another stranger when they never met? Is it really worth it? Andrew thought to himself. In his life he never heard such thing before.

Seeing both kins waiting for the boy’s return and hoping for his safety, the both of them seems really tired. Andrew advice them to get some rest, as he will stay for the both of them. Being a single mother, the older lady had no other choice. She carried the sleepy girl and gave Andrew her contact number before making her way home.

Sitting there by the bench opposite the surgery room, he could only pray for his sister’s safety. As soon as the hands of his wristwatch turned to midnight, the light of the operation room turned off. Without waiting much longer, he instantly stood just in front of the door.

“The operation went well. She is stable and she’s currently asleep. However, there are also bad news. She may not able to walk again due to the deep injuries to both her legs. There's a chance of healing but the chances are slim.” The doctor told him as soon as he was out.

Andrew was overjoyed for her safety but the latter news will be hard to tell. Cally is in the track team and she always enjoys running in the field. Losing both legs will be losing hopes and dreams for her. After the doctor dismissed himself, the older brother begins his moves to inform his parents about the news. Just as Andrew, both parents are both sad and happy for her but there’s nothing they can do about it.

“As for the boy, he is fine and he is asleep right now. He can go back home the next day.” The doctor continues. Andrew thanked the man with much gratefulness before inform the younger boy’s mother of the news.

The next day, both mother and the girl came back again to pick Kevin up. Andrew accompanied him the whole night to assure the young boy’s safety. Kevin was grateful to Andrew as the three of them start leaving.

Just before that, Kevin whispered to the ear of the older boy. “You can keep my involvement a secret. She doesn’t have to know that, right? Just let her focus in healing.” Then he smiles and walked away.

A bright white room came into a view as soon as I start to regain my consciousness. The wind come blowing softly against my face while the white transparent curtain was following the direction of the wind. The scene outside the window seems unfamiliar and foreign. I turned my head to scan my surrounding and everything seems different than my usual room I always wake up to. The smell of anesthetic and sanitary assures me that I’m currently in a hospital.

Why am I here? I don’t recall a single thing that happened to me. I tried touching my head to get some memory back but it hurts. I must have hit myself hard somewhere. Trying to get up, my heart suddenly skips a beat, as I’m experience something I never wished it would happen to me. My foot felt numb and I can’t feel my legs. At first I thought it was temporary but after waiting a few minutes, I have confirmed to myself.

“This must be a terrible nightmare! This can’t be true! My legs!” I knew I sounded super paranoid and as if I was cursing Him for this unfortunate cast upon me. I can’t help it; my legs were the most important part of my body for me. Running is what I do my whole life, without that, I’m nobody. People know me through tournaments and my winnings. My whole world is shattered.

Just as I was crying my eyes out, Andrew suddenly entered my room. He stared at me shockingly yet happy. He knew I found out about my loss but he was glad that I finally opened my eyes after a whole week of unconsciousness. Though he doesn’t look like the type that shows their emotion, I can see that he was worried about me and he's been accompanying me.

He walked towards me and sat at the chair beside the bed. He stared at me seriously this time and I was curious why is he so.

“The doctor told me about the scar at the back of your shoulder. It seem you had it before the incident” He began after a few moment of silence. He looked into my eyes, expecting some answers but I decided to keep it to myself.

“I didn’t tell mom and dad about this. I supposed you had your reasons for the past few days before the incident?” This time, he seemed calmer. He knew I wouldn’t give myself in so easily.

“Thank you.” I muttered softly. He stood up and wipe off the remaining tears on my cheeks with his thumbs. “Talk to me if you feel like to, okay?” At that moment he really act like a responsible elder brother. I just nodded while he began to take his leave.

The topic about the scar got me reminded of the day I wanted to forget. Thinking about it hurts me. This all rewind back to the story of why Kye slapped me in front of many people around.  It all happened just two weeks before.
